Jamaica squads advance to FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup Quarterfinals
Jamaica’s men and women’s teams have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup after strong performances in Friday’s preliminary round in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The men’s team, after advancing through Thursday’s qualifiers, faced Canada and Argentina in pool play on Friday. They narrowly lost 14-19 to Canada but bounced back with a 21-14 win over Argentina, securing their spot in the quarterfinals. Jabulani Newby scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds against Argentina. They will face the USA on Sunday at 2:20 pm Jamaica time.
The women’s team, who did not need to play in qualifying, started with a 14-9 win over Mexico but later lost 15-20 to Canada. They advanced to the final eight as the second team in Pool B. Tiffany Reynolds stood out against Canada with nine points and 11 rebounds despite the loss.
