Jamaica intensifies preparations for Centrobasket U17 Championship
Jamaica has been drawn alongside host nation Mexico, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic in Group “B” of the Centrobasket Under 17 Boys Championship from December 8-12.
The Jamaicans will open their campaign against Mexico on December 8 before facing El Salvador on the 9th and the Dominican Republic on December 10.
According to National Youth Coordinator, Simone Edwards the team has been training for several months now in preparation for this tournament. Miss Edwards highlighted “We are trying to develop a programme where we have kids playing from age 14, 15, 16 and by the time they are 17, they are ready, they know each other. It will be a great experience for these players.”
When asked if our young nationals will be ready for the international pressure, Miss Edwards went further to say “Mexico are the hosts, their crowd will be hyped and they going to play hard for their country and so will ours. We are not going to back down from anyone, we are just excited to go out and compete at the highest level.”
The classification phase and semi-finals will be contested on December 11, while the final and third place playoff are set for December 12. Jamaica’s 13-member squad will recommence training today at the National Arena.
